What are Apidra SoloSTAR Vials?

Apidra SoloSTAR vials contain insulin glulisine which is a rapid-acting insulin analog that was designed to improve blood sugar control. Apidra SoloSTAR is supplied in one 10 ml vial per package at a concentration of 100 IU/ml. Apidra SoloSTAR vials contain Insulin Glulisine, the same type of insulin included in Apidra SoloSTAR Pens. This vial contains 10 mL of Insulin and can be injected to regulate high levels of sugar in the blood of people with diabetes.

What is it used for?

Apidra SoloSTAR vials are used for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus or adults and children (4 years and above) with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Apidra is used to treat high blood sugar levels and is administered via subcutaneous injection. It can be used with long-acting insulins and oral antidiabetic medications.

Why use Apidra SoloSTAR Insulin?

Apidra SoloSTAR has the longest defined dosing window in the rapid-acting insulin category. This insulin is able to mimic the secretion pattern of the body’s insulin. It has a more rapid absorption (within 35 minutes) and longer duration of action than its competitors, such as insulin lispro, which absorbs within 45 minutes. In general, Apidra has been shown to absorb, on average, 10 minutes faster, regardless of patient weight, compared to insulin lispro.  It is also capable of reducing post-meal sugar levels to 149mg/dL within an hour versus 158mg/dL when compared to insulin aspart. The Monnier study pointed out the importance of post-meal sugar levels, as it is necessary for better overall blood sugar control.
